Understanding Your Genius

Your Genius.

Try this mini experiment: Fold your arms. Notice whether you’ve folded your left arm over your right arm, or your right over left.

Now fold your arms the opposite way. Does it feel right? For most people, it doesn’t, it feels unnatural. That’s because you’re folding your arms the wrong way. That’s not to say there is one right way to fold your arms. There is however, a way that’s right for you.

In a similar way, we’re all born with a natural entrepreneurial genius. Once we become aware of our genius, it’s like a lightbulb going on. Suddenly we realise that we can follow a path of least resistance, one that aligns to our natural strengths to be successful.

The Rules of the Genius Game.

Each genius (there are four in all) has a set of rules (similar to a sport). If you know the game you’re most suited for as well as the rules of that game, you can focus on becoming great at it. The ‘rules’ of success for one genius are sometimes the exact opposite of another’s, to borrow a sports analogy, in basketball you’re expected to pick the ball up in order to play, whereas in soccer you don’t pick the ball up, you kick it.

Understanding the Four Geniuses.

Each genius has a different way to reach fulfilment. Each has a different way to manage time and money, grow a network, and lead a team. Each genius has a winning (and losing) formula.

Of course, none of us are only one thing: we all have a little of each genius in us. But we all have a dominant one.

Which genius do you think you are?

Read the below summaries and share your thoughts in the comments box at the end of this article.

Dynamo Genius – "Ideas Smart"

Dynamo Geniuses are great at starting things, but not so good at finishing. Dynamo energy is Spring energy, these are people who in are flow when creating and growing. Dynamos are great at providing perspective, but often at the expense of the peripheral issues.

Great at...   Creation: Dynamos start and move things forward. They have an ability to visualise the future with ease. They succeed with their “heads in the clouds” and have short attention spans.
Not so great at...   Finishing, timing, peripheral issues, paying attention: Teachers probably yelled at Dynamos in class for not paying attention.
Winning Formula   Creating value through innovation: Dynamos have creativity, flair, and the ability to get things started. They ‘grow’.
Losing Formula   Consultation and relying on sensory awareness. Dynamo Genius is weakest at timing, service and sensing others.

Blaze Genius – "People Smart"

Blaze Geniuses love people and feed off social energy. They are easily distracted.  Blaze energy is Summer energy, these people are in flow when focused on their strengths in leadership and forming connections. Blaze Geniuses thrive when they're out there making a difference through people, with fun and variety.

Great at...   Conversation and communication: Blazes are all about relationships, putting people first, and talking to those people and hearing their stories. They learn through talking and telling / hearing stories..
Not so great at...   Details: Blazes are weakest at analysis and detailed calculation.
Winning Formula   Creating leverage through magnification: Blazes ask the question “How can this only be done with me?” They build their brand by growing their relationships. Asking magnify.
Losing Formula   Calculation: Blazes get stuck when they try and multiply, growing through systems that work without them.

Tempo Genius – "Sense Smart"

Tempo Geniuses are grounded but often get lost in activity. Tempo energy is Autumn energy, these people are focused on their heightended sense of perception and their perseverance. Tempo Geniuses who are in flow don't worry that they prefer to take their time when making decisions and are cautious by nature.

Great at...   Staying grounded, dealing with lots of activity, being very hands-on, and requiring testimonials and referrals: Don’t expect a creative plan from Tempo Geniuses. Do expect them to do what needs to be done on time.
Not so great at...   Innovation, public speaking, strategic planning, and seeing the bigger picture.
Winning Formula   Creating value through timing: Tempos don’t need to create anything if they know when to buy, when to sell, when to act and when to hold.
Losing Formula   Creativity: Tempos are weakest when they try and innovate from a blank sheet, trying to create their way to success instead of using their natural senses.
Opposite Genius   Dynamo Genius

Steel Genius – "Detail Smart"

Steel Geniuses take great care with the details, but are often over-cautious. Steel energy is Winter energy, these people are focused on their knack for systems and in managing data. Steels who are in flow are unapologetic about their lack of social skills or sensitivity. They are in flow when they are alone and often do their best work when locked away from the crowds.

Great at...   Calculation: Steels love handbooks, manuals and reading through small print to understand and clarify all the information. Steels will take their time and get things right. They won’t be rushed and will carefully create systems to build their flow.
Not so great at...   Small talk and constant communication.
Winning Formula   Creating leverage through multiplication: Steels ask the question “How can this be done without me?” Through systems they make things simple and multiply.
Losing Formula   Communication: Steels often suck the energy out of a Dynamo (their metal axes chop down a Dynamo’s wood) and too much contact with Blaze can dull their sharp minds (fire can melt metal)

The Key to Wealth is FLOW.

All living systems flow. Our bodies flow. Talent flows, products flow, information flows. So does wealth. The key to unlocking your wealth is understanding and doing the things that keep you in flow.

So what does flow have to do with your genius?

Everything! When you know your genius, you can get into flow and make that flow grow stronger. Think about the times in your life when everything felt like hard work: these were the moments when you were focusing on your weaknesses (losing formula). Now think back to the times in your life when everything flowed with effortless ease: in these moments you were following your natural genius (winning formula). If you truly understand this critical concept of flow, you’ll realise that as an entrepreneur, staying in flow is an obligation, not a nice-to-have.
